2024 Lok Sabha Election: BJP Approaches Election Commission After Rahul Gandhi Accusations

The BJP leader Tarun Chugh expressed concern about Rahul Gandhi’s alleged attempt to incite discord based on language and region, and stated that the party had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission. Chugh accused Gandhi of being a habitual offender who lies, conspires, and diverts attention. Earlier, the Congress had approached the Election Commission to demand action over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks. PM Modi had criticized the Congress manifesto, claiming that it promised to redistribute the nation’s wealth to imposters and would conduct surveys of people’s property, including gold belongings, with the intention to redistribute it, even to the extent of not sparing mangalsutras.

The Congress strongly criticized these comments as “divisive” and appealed to the Commission for action, considering them to be “far worse than any ever made by a sitting Prime Minister in the history of India”. The Congress also emphasized that the repeated comments from PM Modi and the BJP invoking religious sentiments have been left unchecked by the Election Commission, despite being blatant and direct violations of electoral laws. The party called for accountability, stating that such behavior “cannot go unchecked, unanswered, and unpunished”.
