Ms Irani, who defeated Mr Gandhi in the 2019 election, mentioned that the Congress has not announced its candidate, expressing her discontent. Before being defeated by Ms Irani, Mr Gandhi had represented Amethi for three terms. The seat has historical significance as it has been represented in the past by members of the Gandhi family and was considered a Congress stronghold.

Ms Irani also commented on Mr Gandhi’s candidature following his decision to contest from Kerala’s Wayanad. She raised concerns about potential caste-based politics when Mr Gandhi visits Amethi, claiming that he previously neglected issues in the constituency.
