Sourav Ganguly supports star duo to open for India at T20 World Cup, not Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shubman Gill.

The Delhi Capitals are currently in eighth place on the points table, having earned six points from three wins and five losses. In their last game, they were defeated by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

During a media event in Delhi, Ganguly emphasized the importance for the Indian team to play without fear in T20Is. He highlighted the significance of six-hitting and expressed confidence in Virat Kohli’s ability to score a century in just 40 balls.

Ganguly emphasized the need for fearless and free play, commending the exceptional six-hitting abilities of all the players. Ganguly also expressed his belief in the talents of Yashasvi, stating that his name has not fallen far in terms of selection for the T20 World Cup.

He emphasized that selection for the World Cup should not be based solely on one IPL season, and stressed the importance of a balanced team comprising both youth and experienced players. Regarding the Impact Player rule that allows teams to use substitutes, Ganguly asserted that it has not diminished the role of all-rounders but rather provides teams the option to field a better batter instead of an average all-rounder.

He cited exceptional performances by all-rounders and highlighted one such innings against the Chennai Super Kings. Ganguly acknowledged that the IPL performances will influence the selectors’ squad choice for the T20 World Cup, but he hoped that selectors would consider performances from the past three to four seasons.
