Synthetic Sweetener in Cake Linked to Punjab Girl’s Death: Official

The incident occurred on March 24 when the entire family of a girl fell ill after consuming a chocolate cake ordered online from a bakery in Patiala. Upon testing a sample of the cake, it was found to contain a high amount of saccharine, a synthetic sweet-tasting compound, which can cause rapid rises in blood glucose levels at high levels. The District Health Officer, Dr. Vijay Jindal, informed NDTV about this discovery and stated that action will be taken against the bakery, including the possibility of a fine and a filed FIR against the bakery’s owner.

A widely shared video on social media showed the girl, Manvi, celebrating her birthday with her family just hours before her unfortunate death. Soon after cutting the cake, the entire family fell sick, and the girls began vomiting. Manvi and her sister complained about dryness in their mouth and feeling parched.

After she passed out, she was rushed to a hospital where, despite receiving oxygen, she was declared dead soon after. The family alleged that the chocolate cake, ordered from ‘Cake Kanha’, contained poisonous substances.
