Amritpal Singh’s Lawyer Asserts His Candidacy for Lok Sabha Elections.

Amritpal Singh, the chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit, has been approached to contest elections from Khadoor Sahib as an independent candidate. His legal counsel, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, stated that he met Amritpal Singh in Dibrugarh jail and urged him to run for parliament in the interest of ‘Khalsa Panth’.

Khalsa claimed that Amritpal Singh accepted his request for the Panthic interests and will contest as an independent candidate. Amritpal Singh had previously not shown interest in joining politics, according to his father, Tarsem Singh.

However, Tarsem Singh reserved his comments on the matter until meeting his son on Thursday. Amritpal Singh was arrested in April last year and has been detained in Dibrugarh jail, along with nine of his associates.

He has been charged under the stringent National Security Act (NSA). Known for styling himself after deceased Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Amritpal Singh was apprehended in Moga’s Rode village after a month-long manhunt.

Prior to his arrest, he evaded the police in Jalandhar district by changing appearances and vehicles. The Punjab Police initiated a crackdown following the Ajnala incident in February last year, during which Amritpal Singh and his supporters clashed with police to secure the release of one of his aides.

Several criminal cases, including spreading disharmony, attempts to murder, attacks on police personnel, and obstructing public servants from discharging their duties, have been filed against Amritpal Singh and his associates.
