Mamata Banerjee Sends a Strong Message After 26,000 Teachers Lose Jobs: “Not One Vote admin, April 24, 2024 Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Bengal, strongly criticized the Calcutta High Court’s decision to annul the employment of 26,000 teachers, delivering a stern message against the BJP, CPM, and Congress, and urging government employees and teachers not to vote for these parties. She accused the BJP of influencing the High Court, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Border Security Force (BSF), and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), while also alleging that Doordarshan has been colored in favor of the BJP and Modi. She urged people to boycott the biased coverage. The Calcutta High Court had recently scrapped the 2016 teacher recruitment process due to allegations of bribery, resulting in the immediate unemployment of the 26,000 teachers. The affected teachers were also instructed to return their salaries with 12% interest. The state has appealed the decision in the Supreme Court. The cancellation of the recruitment process is expected to have significant political ramifications in West Bengal, where the BJP is seeking to expand its influence. In response, Mamata Banerjee’s party is aiming to capitalize on public anger resulting from the court ruling, which has already prompted large protests in Kolkata. Proponents of the protests argue that the punishment affects thousands of innocent teachers, their families, and students, due to the actions of a few corrupt individuals, including some Trinamool leaders and former government officials who are currently in jail.
