Shashi Tharoor and Fellow MP in Agreement on AAP Leader’s Praise for Cricketer

Mr. Singh expressed his belief that there should be no debate about the wicket-keeper batsman in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup and advocated for Sanju Samson to be included. He also suggested grooming Samson as the next T20 captain for India after Rohit Sharma.

Responding to Mr. Singh’s statement, Mr. Tharoor voiced his long-standing argument that Samson has not been given the selectorial opportunities he deserves. He emphasized Samson’s leading position as a keeper-batsman in the IPL but expressed disappointment that his inclusion in team discussions is lacking.

This isn’t the first time Tharoor has supported Samson’s selection, as Samson has already represented India in 25 T20I and 16 ODI matches. Tharoor went as far as suggesting that Samson should not only have been picked for the team but also made the captain in the absence of senior players.

During a series where Suryakumar Yadav was named captain, which followed India’s loss in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, Tharoor found it “inexplicable.” He argued that Samson’s captaincy experience with Kerala and Rajasthan Royals made him a more suitable choice than Suryakumar Yadav, urging selectors to justify their decisions to the cricket-loving public.

All 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala are set to vote on April 26, with the votes being counted on June 4.
