US Woman Afflicted by Rare Medical Condition Experiencing Permanent Arousal Has ‘Ruined My Life’

Scarlet Kaitlin Wallen, a 21-year-old woman in the United States, has opened up about living with a rare medical condition known as persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD). This condition causes uncontrollable arousal and has left her in excruciating pain since the age of six. Ms. Wallen describes feeling constant “pins-and-needles” in her genitals, which has made it difficult for her to work or study full-time.

Despite affecting only one percent of the population, PGAD can have severe symptoms, and Ms. Wallen has endured years of unrelenting pain due to the condition. She recalls experiencing burning and discomfort in her genital area from a young age, which made it challenging to play with friends. Ms. Wallen has also been diagnosed with congenital neuroproliferative vestibulodynia, adding to her pain and discomfort.

In her pursuit of relief, Ms. Wallen has undergone surgeries to remove some of the painful tissue, with the hope of achieving a “normal” sex drive in the future. While she continues to seek treatments and surgeries, she remains optimistic that one day she will be free from the struggles of living with PGAD.
