Notice to BJP and Congress Regarding Complaints of Election Violations by PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi admin, April 25, 2024 The Election Commission of India has requested responses from the presidents of the BJP and Congress, JP Nadda and Mallikarjun Kharge respectively, by 11 am on Monday, April 29. This move comes after the Election Commission received complaints from both parties regarding alleged violations during their election campaigns. Each notice contained copies of the rival’s complaint. The Election Commission has issued notices of censure to both the BJP and Congress for what it deemed as “low-level personal attacks” in their campaign speeches. The BJP had complained about remarks made by Congress leader, Mr. Gandhi, accusing him of making “derisive and obnoxious utterances” against Prime Minister Modi. Meanwhile, the Congress had also complained about Mr. Modi’s comments, referring to their manifesto as a “Muslim League imprint” and alleging plans to divide the country if they win the election. The ongoing 2024 Lok Sabha elections began on April 19 and will continue for 44 days until June 1. The voting is scheduled to take place over seven phases, with the results set to be announced on June 4. The Election Commission’s response to these complaints is anticipated as a significant indicator of its stance on maintaining the integrity of electoral processes in the country.
