After casting his vote, Shami urged citizens to exercise their franchise and “elect the government of their choice”. He expressed pride in Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioning him during a speech in Amroha and praising his game.

Voting was held in eight parliamentary constituencies of Uttar Pradesh – Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura, and Bulandshahr during the second phase of Lok Sabha polls. The voting began at 7 am on Friday across 88 constituencies in 13 states and union territories for the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

In February, PM Modi extended wishes for a speedy recovery to Shami, who underwent a successful operation on his Achilles tendon. Shami is currently undergoing rehabilitation from the injury and provided an injury update on April 19, expressing eagerness to make a comeback.

Shami, who is 33 years old, was last seen representing India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November. During the tournament, he finished as the highest wicket-taker and took 24 wickets in seven matches.

He missed the tour to South Africa after the tournament and the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in January.
