Mob Action Leads to Submission of Petitions: Mahesh Jetmalani Discusses VVPAT Verdict

Senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani has accused a “cabal” within the Supreme Court of trying to undermine India’s electoral process with the VVPAT verification petition. He labeled the petition as motivated and aimed at casting doubt on the sanctity of India’s electoral processes. The Supreme Court bench, in its verdict on the petition, affirmed the current electoral processes with minor modifications and criticized the petitioners for attempting to undermine the achievements of the nation. Jethmalani criticized the petitioners in an exclusive interview with NDTV, calling them “bad losers” and accusing them of being more concerned with casting doubt on the democratic processes rather than strengthening the electoral process.

He labeled their actions as an anti-national step and accused them of undermining the legitimacy of the government they disagree with. He emphasized that the Supreme Court’s judgment provided further validation of the electoral process and condemned the petitioners as a motivated mob lacking responsibility and intent. He also aligned the petitioners with the opposition and accused them of being partisan in their motives, citing examples where the opposition has not questioned EVMs when they win elections. Jethmalani also addressed the stance of senior BJP leaders and emphasized that Dr. Subramanian Swamy’s engagement with various issues should not be considered partisan.

Finally, he accused the opposition of using these petitioners as a front to avoid addressing why they do not complain about EVMs when they win. Throughout the interview, Jethmalani strongly condemned the motives and actions of the petitioners, emphasizing their purported negative impact on the integrity of India’s electoral process.
