US Police Officer Restrains and Kills Black Man, Then Boasts About Brawls

The Ohio Police Department has faced criticism following the release of body camera footage showing officers pinning a Black man, Frank Tyson, to the ground in a bar. The video captures the moments before Tyson’s death, sparking comparisons to the events that led to George Floyd’s death in 2020. The footage shows officers confronting Tyson inside a bar after he was suspected of leaving the scene of a car accident.

An altercation quickly ensues, with officers wrestling Tyson to the ground and handcuffing him despite his pleas for help and repeated cries of “I can’t breathe.” Despite Tyson’s continued pleas for relief, officers apply pressure to his back near his neck. After several minutes, they notice his lack of responsiveness and administer CPR.

Tyson is transported to a hospital, where he later dies. In the body cam footage, one officer can be heard bragging about wanting to be in a “bar fight” with a patron. This has drawn chilling parallels to George Floyd’s fatal encounter with Minneapolis Police in 2020, sparking global outrage.

The officers involved, identified as Beau Schoenegge and Camden Burch, have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
