Arvind Kejriwal’s Health is Good, but Doctors Advise Two Daily Insulin Doses

The decision regarding Mr. Kejriwal’s health was made after a review by a board consisting of an endocrinologist and a diabetologist. Following a virtual conference, the board concluded that Mr. Kejriwal is healthy and does not require a change in his medication dosage. The next review meeting is scheduled for seven days from now.

Mr. Kejriwal received his first dose of insulin on Monday evening when his sugar level spiked to 217. A medical board, formed the next day, advised him to continue the dosage for five days, receiving a low dose of insulin twice daily before lunch and dinner until the next review meeting. A Tihar jail official reported that Mr. Kejriwal’s health is being monitored by doctors at the jail, and he is receiving home-cooked food and prescribed medication.

Sources revealed that Mr. Kejriwal, detained since March 21, wrote to Tihar Jail’s Superintendent after a video conference with doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Following this meeting, jail officials asserted that the supply of insulin had not been increased. However, Mr. Kejriwal had a different perspective, stating that his sugar level readings ranged between 250 and 320 mg/dl, and he had requested insulin nearly every day despite statements to the contrary.

Previously, the Aam Aadmi Party had alleged a plot to harm Mr. Kejriwal in jail by withholding insulin and other diabetes medications. The Enforcement Directorate accused Mr. Kejriwal of regularly consuming sugary foods, insinuating a ploy to exploit his health for legal advantage. Mr. Kejriwal refuted these claims, accusing the agency of politicizing the issue.

Mr. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy and has been detained in Tihar Jail since April 1. His petition challenging summonses issued by the probe agency is set to be heard in the Delhi High Court on May 15.
