Fact-Checking: Did Amit Shah claim that BJP plans to eliminate reservation for OBCs?

Several X handles shared a video circulating a claim that Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement about ending reservation. The video, which carried the logo of V6 News, showed Shah speaking about scrapping the ‘unconstitutional reservation of Muslims if voted to power in Telangana.’

This video was found on the V6 News Telugu YouTube channel, published on April 23, 2023. The viral clip of Shah’s statement appeared in a video at the 2:38-minute timestamp.

NDTV and Times Now also reported on Shah’s remarks, asserting that he had promised to end the 4 per cent Muslim reservation in Telangana if the BJP came to power in the state. However, it was noted that the original video was edited and did not accurately reflect Shah’s entire statement.

Shah’s actual statement revolved around ending the Muslim reservation, not the SC, ST, and OBC reservation quotas. This indicates that the claims made based on the viral clip are false.
