Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Priyanka Gandhi Adds a Twist to BJP’s ‘Ab Ki Baar’ Slogan

Priyanka Gandhi addressed a rally in Maharashtra’s Latur, making a direct attack on the BJP in the state. Maharashtra is crucial as it elects the second-highest number of Lok Sabha MPs. Ms. Gandhi stated that the people have decided to vote out the current government due to rising inflation and unemployment, and to replace it with a dispensation that serves their needs. During her speech, Ms. Gandhi was interrupted by a supporter chanting “*ab ki baar*” slogan in her party’s favor.

She took advantage of the moment to criticize the BJP and PM Modi, emphasizing the changing public opinion and the need for truth over theatrics and drama. Ms. Gandhi further expressed her concerns about the focus on religion and caste in the voters’ mindset, stating that it favors the leaders and their children rather than the voters themselves. She urged the audience to vote for their own welfare and not to be swayed by the allure of leaders or parties. Highlighting the contrast in the use of PM office, Ms. Gandhi pointed out PM Modi’s focus on trivial matters rather than his achievements, which she feels diminishes the stature of the office.

Ms. Gandhi also emphasized the Congress’s successful implementation of guarantees in Karnataka, as proof of the weight carried by the promises in their manifesto. Notably, the upcoming election in Maharashtra is expected to be a close contest, with a coalition of the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, and the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP challenging the BJP and its allies.
