2024 Lok Sabha Elections: Election Commission requests AAP to change campaign song; Atishi questions BJP’s status admin, April 28, 2024 The AAP has been in conflict with the Enforcement Directorate regarding the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders connected to the Delhi liquor policy case. The AAP claims that the case is fabricated and has been vocal about it. They argue that the song in question, which does not mention the BJP and contains factual incidents, does not violate the model code of conduct. The party alleges that the EC has not taken action on poll code violations by the BJP and expresses concerns about the state of democracy. Following this, the EC has returned the advertisement in question and requested modification of its contents. The song was originally released at the party headquarters on Thursday. In a separate development, the Supreme Court is set to hear a plea by Mr. Kejriwal challenging his arrest on Monday. Mr. Kejriwal has previously stated to the Supreme Court that his arrest constitutes an unprecedented assault on the principles of democracy and free and fair elections. He also commented on the timing and manner of his arrest just before the Lok Sabha elections. In a rejoinder to the ED’s reply on his petition challenging his arrest, Mr. Kejriwal highlighted his concerns about the agency’s actions, particularly emphasizing the timing of his arrest in relation to the model code coming into effect.
