Arun Govil Clarifies Why He Left Meerut For Mumbai Day After Polls: Ramayan Actor Explains Decision

The BJP candidate in Meerut, Arun Govil, made headlines recently for his transition from wearing a party scarf to a cap and from sandals to shoes. This change garnered attention from the public and media, with Govil trending on social media. However, Congress’ UP chief Ajay Rai criticized Govil, labeling him as a “parachute politician” who swiftly departed for Mumbai after the elections.

Govil explained his departure as per the party’s directives and expressed gratitude to the voters of Meerut. Another allegation against Govil is his purported lack of awareness about the issues in Meerut. When questioned about this, he admitted to not being fully informed and emphasized the common issues that need addressing, such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare.

He downplayed the significance of his celebrity status in the election and stressed the BJP’s efforts in the constituency. In the electoral race, Govil faces competition from Samajwadi Party’s Dalit candidate Sunita Verma and BSP’s Devvrat Tyagi. The state of Uttar Pradesh holds substantial political importance, contributing the highest number of MPs to parliament.

The former Mayor of Meerut, Sunita Verma, vies for the position, supported by her husband, a well-known figure in the constituency. The recent phase of polling in Meerut recorded a 58.70% turnout according to the Election Commission’s Voter Turnout app.
