Namibia condemns tourists for posing naked on popular sand dune: “Disgusting

The Big Daddy dune is a popular tourist spot in Namibia, rising to a height of around 325 meters and attracting visitors from around the world. Recently, the dune gained attention for an incident that shocked locals and authorities in Namibia. Three male tourists were reported to have posed naked atop the sand dune, causing outrage and demands for action to be taken against them. Photos and videos of the tourists’ behavior went viral on social media, prompting strong reactions from both locals and tourism authorities.

Kenneth Nependa, vice-chairperson of the Federation of Namibian Tourism Associations, expressed concern over the incident, stating that it created a negative image for Namibia. Romeo Muyunda, spokesperson for the ministry of environment, forestry, and tourism, condemned the behavior as “extremely shocking” and noted that it constituted public indecency punishable by Namibian law. The incident led to a debate on social media, with some individuals criticizing the tourists’ actions and others defending it as harmless sunbathing. However, the authorities emphasized that such behavior goes against the law and called on tourists to act responsibly while visiting Namibia.

It was reported that the tourists had already left Namibia by the time the authorities became aware of the incident. This incident has brought attention to the importance of respecting the local laws and cultural norms while visiting popular tourist destinations like the Big Daddy dune. Another notable dune in Namibia, named Dune 7, holds the distinction of being the tallest dune, measuring at 388 meters and located along the Tsauchab River.
