JD(S) Plans to Suspend Deve Gowda’s Grandson Over Sex Scandal: HD Kumaraswamy

The former chief minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy, has spoken out regarding the case involving Prajwal Revanna, the son of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda’s elder son. Prajwal Revanna is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha election from Hassan constituency. Kumaraswamy claimed that Deve Gowda and himself were not aware of the issue and that a decision to suspend Prajwal was made based on the issues that had come out. He also mentioned that a SIT has been constituted to probe the alleged sex scandal involving Prajwal and expressed the need to also investigate the origin and circulation of the alleged video clips.

Kumaraswamy expressed that if the charges against Prajwal are true, punishment should be in accordance with the law, emphasizing that there should be no compromise. He clarified that there are no direct allegations against Prajwal, but the family is in agreement for action to be taken if he is proven wrong. He strongly objected to the involvement of PM Modi, BJP, Deve Gowda, and himself in this case and questioned why they were being linked to it. Kumaraswamy asserted that there is no question of defending Prajwal and that the party would take “merciless action” if the SIT probe proves the charges against the MP.

He emphasized that the controversy is about an individual and his deeds, not the family, and stated that whoever has committed the mistake has to undergo punishment. The JD(S) state chief expressed concern that such incidents cause embarrassment to society and urged for a fair probe by the SIT and the government. He also mentioned that the incident will not impact the election results in Hassan and expressed doubts about a political conspiracy behind the leak of the video clips. He did not want to discuss the issue further.

Kumaraswamy said that he was not informed about the matter and stated that it was not in their control to monitor an individual’s daily activities. He emphasized the need for a fair probe, highlighted the respect towards women shown by himself and Deve Gowda, and expressed his belief in the victory of the NDA candidate in Hassan. Overall, Kumaraswamy’s statements revolved around the need for a fair investigation into the allegations against Prajwal, the commitment to take appropriate action if he is proven wrong, and the assertion that the controversy should not involve the family or be linked to political figures.
