JD(S) To Suspend Deve Gowda’s Grandson Over Sex Scandal: HD Kumaraswamy

The former chief minister sought to distance JD(S)’s alliance partner BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the case. Ms Prajwal, the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for the Lok Sabha election from Hassan constituency, was suspended pending recommendation at the core committee meeting in Hubballi. Mr Kumaraswamy claimed that neither he nor Deve Gowda were aware of the issue, and that a decision to suspend Prajwal had been made.

The 33-year-old Prajwal Revanna, son of former Prime Minister HD Revanna, is alleged to have sexually abused several women, leading to the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged sex scandal involving the MP. Mr Kumaraswamy emphasized the need to inquire into the creation and circulation of the alleged explicit video clips. Mr Kumaraswamy stated that if the charges against Prajwal Revanna are true, punishment should be in accordance with the law.

He strongly objected to linking the case with Prime Minister Modi, BJP, Deve Gowda, or himself. He reiterated that the party would take “merciless action” if the SIT probe proved the charges against the MP. The Chief Minister’s Office issued a statement indicating that Prajwal has left the country.

Mr Kumaraswamy refused to comment on Prajwal’s whereabouts and claimed that they had no prior knowledge of the matter. The JD(S) state chief mentioned the possibility of a political conspiracy behind the leak of the video clips and urged a fair probe by the SIT and the government. He expressed confidence in the NDA candidate winning in Hassan and downplayed the impact of the recent developments on the election results.
