What Forced Deve Gowda’s Grandson To Leave India Amid Sex Scandal?

The video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna emerged on social media a day after he voted in Phase 2 of the elections on April 26. Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of JDS chief and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has denied the allegations and filed a complaint stating that the videos being circulated are doctored. In response, the Karnataka government has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the obscene videos case.

The decision to set up the SIT came after the state women’s commission recommended the Siddaramaiah government to take action. A woman has filed a police case against Prajwal Revanna, accusing him of sexual assault. She alleged that she had been sexually abused multiple times between 2019 and 2022.

The complainant also claimed that Prajwal Revanna misbehaved with her daughter over a video call and had “vulgar conversations” with her. Additionally, she alleged that Prajwal’s father HD Revanna also sexually assaulted her when his wife was not at home. She expressed concern over a threat to her life as well as to other members of her family.

BJP Leader Devaraje Gowda has claimed that he had written to the state president, flagging “grave allegations” against the HD Deve Gowda family, including Prajwal Revanna. He alleged receiving a pen drive containing explicit videos of women, which were allegedly being used for blackmail purposes, potentially damaging the party’s national image. Prajwal Revanna, who is the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, left for Germany shortly after the videos emerged online.

He has filed a police complaint alleging that the videos were doctored and being circulated to tarnish his image. His father, HD Revanna, who is also an accused in a case filed by their former house help, is the MLA from Holenarasipur constituency. The BJP has distanced itself from Prajwal Revanna amid the controversy around the alleged sex tapes.

The party spokesperson mentioned that they have nothing to do with the videos and will not comment on the SIT probe announced by the state government. JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy said he would like to wait for the facts to come out of the investigation but asserted that there is no question of forgiving anyone who has committed a crime. Another JD(S) leader, Sharangouda Kandkur, has demanded the suspension of Prajwal Revanna, expressing embarrassment over the circulating videos and the damage to the party’s reputation.

The Congress has accused the BJP of helping Prajwal Revanna flee the country amid the controversy and staged a protest demanding his immediate arrest.
