2024 Lok Sabha Election: Rahul Gandhi Challenges Amit Shah on Constitution Change and Reservation

Rahul Gandhi, a member of Congress, criticized the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a rally in Bhind. He accused the BJP of planning to change the Constitution and dismiss reservations if they win elections. Gandhi emphasized the importance of the Constitution, referring to it as the “soul of the poor people of India,” and vowed to protect it. The Opposition parties have echoed similar concerns about the BJP’s alleged intentions to change the Indian constitution with a strong majority. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have denied these allegations, with Modi stating that even if Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar himself urged him to change the Constitution and end reservations, it would not happen. Shah also refuted the claims, stating that the BJP has no intention of ending reservations or harming the Constitution. During the rally, Gandhi also addressed the sensitive topic of reservations, particularly in Madhya Pradesh, targeting the BJP’s alleged stance on reservation policies.

The BJP has dismissed these allegations as a diversion from the real issues. Prime Minister Modi accused the Congress of betraying Scheduled Castes, Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, attributing their distancing from the party to this betrayal. He claimed that the Congress and the Opposition are spreading lies about the BJP’s intentions regarding the Constitution and reservations. These exchanges reflect the ongoing political tensions and accusations between the Congress and the BJP on issues of constitution change and reservations.
