Kota Official’s Message to Students and Parents Amid Spike in Suicides: “I Failed Pre-Meds

The DM, Mr. Goswami, recently addressed the issue of rising suicide cases in his district in response to two incidents that occurred within a three-day period. With a medical background as an MBBS doctor before becoming an IAS officer, Mr. Goswami emphasized the importance of turning failure into an opportunity for improvement and success. He urged parents to not tie their children’s happiness solely to their exam marks and quoted a motivating couplet from Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi to encourage students to view failure as a chance to overcome mistakes and achieve success.

Mr. Goswami highlighted that exams are just a phase in life and not the ultimate goal. He shared his personal experience of failing in the PMT exam and emphasized the role of hard work, leaving the outcome to God. In a letter to the students, he reassured them that one exam does not define their worth or potential, urging them to view failure as an opportunity to strive towards their goals.

In a separate letter to parents, Mr. Goswami appreciated their dedication to providing their children with essential resources but warned against associating their children’s happiness solely with exam results. He encouraged parents to support their children in exploring their interests and improving themselves, sharing his own experience of failing an exam despite his parents’ support. He urged parents to regularly communicate with their children, reinforcing their importance and preciousness.
