Lok Sabha Election 2024: Amethi Congress Urges Quick Announcement of Candidate, “Ran Out Of Patience

Congress workers held a protest outside the party office today, demanding that candidates for the prestigious Amethi and Raebareli seats be announced. The seats are scheduled for elections on May 20, in the fifth phase, with only four days left for filing nominations. The protesters expressed impatience and urged the party to expedite the announcement of candidates. The Congress party is still reeling from the loss in 2019 when MP Rahul Gandhi was defeated by Union Minister Smriti Irani in Amethi, a seat previously held by the Gandhi family.

There is speculation that Rahul Gandhi may not be interested in contesting from Amethi, and there are also doubts about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s willingness to enter electoral politics from Raebareli. The protesting workers expressed faith that the Gandhi family will contest from Amethi and have been raising slogans demanding Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as potential candidates. Smriti Irani, who filed her nomination from Amethi, exuded confidence about securing a second consecutive term and appeared indifferent to the possibility of facing either Rahul or Priyanka as opponents.
