Supreme Court Irked by Top Medical Body Director’s Controversial Remarks: “Be Prepared…

The Supreme Court responded positively to the public apology issued by Patanjali Ayurved, stating that there has been a significant improvement in the situation. The bench, consisting of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanulla, expressed appreciation for the increased presence of other names in addition to Patanjali. They also sought the original page of each newspaper in which the public apology was issued from Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna.

During the court proceedings, the bench strongly criticized comments made by Indian Medical Association (IMA) President RV Asokan in an interview with the news agency PTI. The remarks were brought to light by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who represented Patanjali Ayurved. The bench instructed Rohatgi to bring the interview with the IMA Director on record, warning of potentially serious consequences and expressing dissatisfaction with the IMA’s conduct.

The IMA President had expressed disappointment with the Supreme Court’s criticism in the interview, stating that they believed the court did not consider the full scope of the issue before making its remarks. The Supreme Court also addressed the inaction of the Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority in the case, with the licensing authority taking action only after the court’s order. The case originated from a petition filed by the IMA, in which the Supreme Court cautioned Patanjali Ayurved against making false and misleading claims in its advertisements about its medicines.

The court also directed Patanjali Ayurved to halt all electronic and print advertisements with immediate effect. Overall, the court’s proceedings involved considerations of the public apology, criticisms of the IMA President’s remarks, and discussions on the actions of the licensing authority in response to the case.
