Accused Grandson of Deve Gowda in Sex Scandal to Return Within a Week, Lawyer Says

Janata Dal Secular leader Prajwal Revanna, accused of raping multiple women, is set to return within a week to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, according to his lawyer Arun G. The MP from Hassan has left the country following the emergence of videos on social media, sparking controversy during the general election. His lawyer asserts that there was no rape and mentions that he has not viewed the videos, which raised concerns from the state women’s commission chief Nagalakshmi Choudhary, labeling it as the “biggest scandal of the country” following her interpretation of the videos as depicting non-consensual sexual activity. Arun G expressed the intention to focus on their responsibilities while allowing the women’s commission to perform its duties.

He also disputed the interpretation of the videos and pointed out that he and his client had not benefited from seeing the videos. The lawyer mentioned that they have been given access to the First Information Report and will review all available evidence. The police case against Mr. Revanna was filed based on a woman’s complaint, alleging abuse by the MP and his father, HD Revanna, over several years.

The issue has escalated into a political feud, with the BJP, in alliance with Janata Dal Secular in Karnataka. The BJP state leaders have distanced themselves from the matter, and Revanna has been suspended by his party. Furthermore, his uncle and party chief HD Kumaraswamy has emphasized that there is no room for forgiveness when it comes to individuals who have committed criminal acts.
