Accused grandson of Deve Gowda in sex scandal to return within a week, says lawyer.

Janata Dal Secular leader Prajwal Revanna, who has been accused of raping multiple women, has left the country after videos surfaced on social media, triggering a significant controversy during the general election. His lawyer, Arun G, stated in an exclusive interview with NDTV that Revanna will return within a week and cooperate with the investigation.

The grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and the MP from the family stronghold of Hassan is under scrutiny, with the state women’s commission chief Nagalakshmi Choudhary calling it the “biggest scandal of the country” after reviewing the videos. Choudhary suggested that the videos appeared to depict non-consensual sexual acts, prompting a response from Revanna’s lawyer, who emphasized that there was no evidence of rape and that they had not yet accessed the videos.

The lawyer expressed confidence in the legal process, stating that they have been given access to the First Information Report and will examine all available evidence. A police case against Revanna was filed on the complaint of a woman who alleged long-term abuse by the MP and his father, HD Revanna, leading to a political uproar as the matter became intertwined with a wider political conflict involving the BJP in alliance with Revanna’s party, the Janata Dal Secular in Karnataka.

The state BJP leaders have distanced themselves from the issue, and the Hassan MP has been suspended by his party. Additionally, Revanna’s uncle and party chief HD Kumaraswamy has expressed a firm stance against forgiving anyone who has committed a crime.
