BCCI Criticized by India for Ignoring CSK Player, Alleges ‘Favoritism’

Former cricketer Srikkanth accused the team management of ‘favouritism’, claiming that Shubman Gill seems to be getting chances even when he is not performing well in any format. He pointed out that Ruturaj Gaikwad is currently the highest run-scorer in IPL 2024, surpassing Gill in the rankings. Srikkanth highlighted Gaikwad’s impressive performance, stating that he has scored over 500 runs in 17 innings and even secured a century against Australia. Srikkanth expressed his disbelief at Gill’s selection in the team despite his poor form, suggesting that there is favoritism at play.

He criticized the selectors for consistently favoring Gill, even when he fails to perform in Test matches, ODIs, and T20s. This led to his assertion that the team selection process is heavily influenced by favoritism. Srikkanth made these comments in a video on his YouTube channel ‘Cheeky Chekka.’ In addition, Srikkanth expressed his puzzlement at Gill playing ahead of Ruturaj, given Ruturaj’s better T20I career and highlighted that Gill’s continuing selection despite being out of form is perplexing.
