Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the Congress addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on dynastic politics and inheritance tax, saying that he would never understand the feelings and thoughts that her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, inherited from his mother, not wealth. She criticized PM Modi’s statement that Rajiv Gandhi had abolished inheritance tax to protect his inheritance from his mother, emphasizing that her father did not gain wealth through inheritance, but received the thoughts of martyrdom.

Speaking at a rally in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, Ms. Gandhi Vadra shared her personal experience of bringing home her father’s remains at the age of 19 and explained her feelings of martyrdom. She also recounted visiting the families of soldiers who died in Pulwama, noting that their children expressed a desire to join the army, exemplifying their understanding of martyrdom and service to the nation, unlike PM Modi.

In response to PM Modi’s claims that Rajiv Gandhi had abolished the inheritance tax, Ms. Gandhi Vadra emphasized that her father did not inherit any wealth from his mother and highlighted PM Modi’s failure to understand the significance of martyrdom and patriotism. She criticized PM Modi’s focus on dynastic politics and wealth redistribution instead of acknowledging the sacrifices made for the nation.

At a rally in Morena, PM Modi had previously stated that Rajiv Gandhi abolished the inheritance tax to save his inheritance from his mother and accused the Congress of wanting to bring back the levy after benefiting from its abolition.
