Lok Sabha Election 2024: Priyanka Gandhi responds to PM, says “My father inherited martyrdom, not wealth.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a member of the Congress party, rejected comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding dynasty politics and inheritance tax. She criticized Modi’s statements about her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Priyanka emphasized that Rajiv Gandhi did not inherit wealth, but rather martyrdom from his mother. She expressed that Modi’s understanding of the significance of martyrdom is limited, as he had suggested that Rajiv Gandhi abolished inheritance tax to protect his inherited wealth.

Priyanka stated that her father did not receive any wealth through inheritance, but only inherited the ideals of martyrdom. Speaking at a rally in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, Priyanka emotionally discussed her personal experience of loss and the impact of martyrdom on her family. She recounted how, at 19 years old, she brought home the mangled remains of her father and expressed her deep grievances about the country’s responsibility towards the safety of her father. She explained the significance of martyrdom and shared her personal feelings for the first time in public.

Priyanka also shared experiences from her interactions with families of martyrs, highlighting the patriotic aspirations of the children of those who had sacrificed their lives for the nation. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized Modi’s apparent disregard for patriotism and service to the nation. She accused him of focusing solely on dynastic politics and overlooking the sacrifices made by martyrs such as Indira Gandhi. Priyanka expressed that Modi’s understanding of the concept of martyrdom is shallow and criticized his comments about her family’s stance on inheritance tax.

She challenged Modi’s statements by emphasizing the true meaning of martyrdom and its impact on the families of those who serve the nation. Prime Minister Modi had previously claimed at a rally in Morena that Rajiv Gandhi abolished inheritance tax to avoid government acquisition of half of a deceased person’s wealth. He accused the Congress party of seeking to reintroduce inheritance tax after benefiting from its abolition.
