Mayawati removes nephew as successor, from party position until he reaches “maturity

Akash Anand, a 29-year-old political figure, was recently removed from his responsibilities following a derogatory comment he made about the BJP, which led to a police case being filed against him. In response, his aunt, Mayawati, expressed that he would be separated from his responsibilities until he attains full maturity. She also highlighted the dedication of her party, BSP, to the movement for self-respect and social change, as well as the preparation of a new generation to carry it forward. Ms. Mayawati further explained that despite previously declaring Akash Anand as the National Coordinator and successor of the party, he would be temporarily removed from these roles in the party’s larger interest.

She mentioned that his father, Anand Kumar, would continue to fulfill his responsibilities in the party. Akash Anand’s critical comments about the BJP had garnered widespread attention, resulting in a case being filed against him for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Following this, the district administration put all of his rallies on hold. Mayawati had previously named her nephew as her political heir, but her recent decision to temporarily relieve him of his responsibilities came during the third phase of elections.

The BSP, a significant political force in the state’s Dalit community, is contesting the elections independently. Akash Anand had entered politics in the lead-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
