Amid Haryana Crisis: 4 Dushyant Chautala MLAs Meet BJP’s ML Khattar admin, May 9, 2024 Efforts are underway to bring a no-confidence motion against the government of Nayab Singh Saini after three Independent MLAs withdrew their support from the BJP. A few of Mr. Chautala’s MLAs reportedly met with former BJP Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Panipat. The meeting, held at the residence of Minister of State Mahipal Dhanda, included four MLAs of the Jannayak Janta Party. Sources revealed that the leaders discussed the current political crisis during the half-hour meeting with Mr. Khattar and Mr. Dhanda around 2 pm. Mr. Dhanda declined to comment on the matter. The BJP-led government in Haryana faced a crisis earlier this week when MLAs Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder withdrew their support. Following a press conference by Mr. Chautala, where he, along with senior Congress leaders, announced that the government had become a minority and offered outside support to the Congress for forming the government, Mr. Chautala later wrote a letter to the Governor, demanding a floor test in the assembly. However, a technicality surfaced, as only one no-confidence motion can be brought against the government in a six-month period. Since the Congress had initiated a no-confidence motion in February, and a floor test was conducted in March, the Opposition is left with no further options. Mr. Chautala’s move came as assembly elections are due later this year, as the assembly’s term is set to end in November. Panipat Political Crisis
