BJP’s Former Partner Dushyant Chautala, Who Challenged Haryana Test Of Strength, Confronts Party Division admin, May 9, 2024 A meeting took place between four MLAs of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and former BJP Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The meeting was held at the residence of Minister of State Mahipal Dhanda in Panipat and lasted for half an hour around 2 pm. The leaders discussed the current political crisis. However, the host, Mr. Dhanda, declined to comment on the matter. In response to the political crisis, JJP leader Mr. Chautala has issued showcause notices to three MLAs who have been issued showcause notices. Meanwhile, former BJP Chief Minister Mr. Khattar appeared unfazed by the situation and stated that the BJP has personal relationships with many MLAs of Congress and the JJP. He emphasized that the opposition would have to satisfy the Governor before a floor test and also noted that the Governor and the Assembly Speaker would have to take a decision on the Opposition’s demand. The Haryana Assembly was plunged into crisis earlier in the week as three Independent MLAs withdrew their support from the BJP government. Subsequently, a press conference was held by Mr. Chautala, accompanied by senior leaders of the Congress, where it was declared that the BJP government is now a minority. Mr. Chautala also sought a floor test in the assembly but was faced with a technicality given that only one no-confidence motion can be brought against the government in a single assembly session. With the assembly elections scheduled to take place later this year, the options for the Opposition are limited. The Governor has been asked to seek a special session, and INLD MLA Abhay Singh Chautala has written to the Governor, suggesting that if an assembly session cannot be called, President’s Rule should be imposed in the state. In response to these developments, the Chief Minister expressed that the Congress is “in a hurry” and mentioned that the party should focus on the Lok Sabha election. Currently, the Haryana Assembly has 88 members out of 90 seats, and the majority mark stands at 45. The BJP has 40 MLAs, including three Independent candidates, and the Congress has 30 MLAs with three independent candidates supporting it. Jannayak Janta Party (JJP)
