Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 4: 10% Voting in First 2 Hours as 96 Seats Across 9 States, J&K Vote Today

The voting for the current phase has seen an average turnout of 10.35% until 9 am. This phase includes 42 out of 96 seats, with a significant presence in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Furthermore, this phase will mark the conclusion of the polling in the southern states. Notably, today’s election holds importance for Jammu and Kashmir as it will host its first election since 2019.

The Srinagar constituency, one of the two Lok Sabha seats in the Union Territory, will be up for polling. However, the polling for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat has been postponed to May 25 due to objections from the BJP. The relationship between the ruling dispensation, the Opposition bloc, and the Election Commission has come under scrutiny, with the commission sending notices to the BJP and Congress chiefs after controversial comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi. In other news, Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted an interim bail from the Supreme Court in the liquor policy case.

However, he is required to surrender on June 2, the day after the seven-phase election ends. Several prominent leaders from both the BJP and the opposition are participating in today’s election, including Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Ajay Mishra. Notably, Ajay Mishra’s son is currently in jail in connection with the farmers’ death in Lakhimpur Kheri. Additionally, key opposition leaders like Trinamool Congress’s Mohua Moitra, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Trinamool’s Shatrughan Sinha, and National Conference’s Omar Abdullah are also in the electoral fray.

The subsequent phase of the election is scheduled for May 20, with the counting of votes set for June 4 after the final phase of the election concludes on June 1.
