Couple Found Dead in Car Under Ghatkopar Hoarding After Stopping for Petrol in Mumbai. admin, May 15, 2024 Manoj Chansoria retired as a general manager of Mumbai ATC in March of this year. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Jabalpur. However, they returned to Mumbai to complete visa formalities for his wife. While on their way back to Jabalpur, they stopped at a petrol pump in Ghatkopar and got caught in a storm. Concerned when calls to the couple went unanswered, their son, who resides in the US, sought help from a friend in Mumbai. The friend filed a missing complaint with the police, who then traced the couple’s last known location to the Ghatkopar petrol pump. Sadly, the building collapse in the area claimed the lives of 16 people and left 41 others seriously injured. Although 34 people were rescued and treated in Mumbai hospitals, search and rescue efforts were eventually called off after all the bodies were recovered. The collapse occurred due to a massive hoarding measuring 120×120 feet and weighing 250 tonnes, despite regulations only allowing hoardings up to 40×40 feet. The individual responsible for the illegal hoarding, Bhinde, has a history of legal troubles, including a rape case. In response to the tragic event, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced a compensation of ₹ 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and pledged government support for the medical expenses of the injured.
