Supreme Court dismisses Enforcement Directorate’s plea against Arvind Kejriwal: “His Assumption… admin, May 16, 2024 Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been ordered to return to Tihar Jail on June 2. This decision came after he made a statement that if people voted for the AAP in the upcoming elections for Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats, he would not have to go back to jail. However, the court ruled that this remark did not violate his bail terms as it was his personal opinion. The court emphasized that their order for Kejriwal’s return to jail on June 2 was clear and had not made any exceptions. They refused to revoke his bail and order him to jail, stating that they welcome criticism of their decision but will not go into the issue further. Kejriwal’s lawyer also pointed out that senior union ministers had made various statements against his client, and claimed efforts were made to “break and humiliate” him while he was in jail. The court also dismissed a petition seeking Kejriwal’s removal and the AAP and Kejriwal have denied all charges, accusing the BJP of orchestrating a “political vendetta” against its rivals before the polls.
