Supreme Court Rejects Probe Agency’s Plea Against Arvind Kejriwal: “His Assumption… admin, May 16, 2024 Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to return to Tihar Jail on June 2, as per a court ruling. The court asserted that his previous statement, “If you vote for AAP (when Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats poll next week) I won’t have to go back to jail,” did not violate his bail terms. The court explained that this statement was Mr. Kejriwal’s personal opinion and made no exceptions to their order. They mentioned that criticism of their decision is welcome, but they will not delve into the matter further. Additionally, the court rejected a request to revoke Mr. Kejriwal’s bail and send him to jail, despite claims of a clear violation of the court’s conditions. In response, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Mr. Kejriwal, highlighted that senior union ministers had made various statements against his client and alleged efforts to “break and humiliate” him during his time in Tihar Jail. Mr. Kejriwal also made a statement indicating that he would be returning to jail on June 2 and would be observing the election results from there. The court had also dismissed a petition seeking Mr. Kejriwal’s removal, and the AAP and Mr. Kejriwal have denied all charges while accusing the BJP of orchestrating a “political vendetta” before polls.
