India Calls for Building Normalized Relations with China Grounded in Mutual Respect

Leaders from four of the five P-5 countries have extended their congratulations to PM Modi. This announcement was made by the spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, amidst ongoing tensions between India and China over the border dispute along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

Mr. Jaiswal expressed gratitude to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their congratulatory message to PM Modi, while also emphasizing India’s commitment to pursuing efforts towards normalizing relations with China, based on mutual respect, interest, and sensitivity. India has consistently emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability along the LAC as crucial for normalizing ties with China.

PM Modi’s win in a third term has been acknowledged by leaders from four of the P-5 countries, with the exception of a congratulatory message from Chinese President Xi Jinping. The P5 nations, which consist of Russia, the UK, the US, China, and France, are the permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The border standoff between the Indian and Chinese militaries has persisted since May 2020, and while some disengagement has occurred at certain friction points, a complete resolution has not yet been achieved.
