Mr Majhi has been chosen as the MLA from the Keonjhar Assembly constituency, marking an end to the 24-year rule of the BJD’s Naveen Patnaik as the chief minister of Odisha. The BJP has selected Mohan Majhi as its candidate for the position of chief minister, and he is set to take oath tomorrow. In the recent elections, Mr Majhi secured victory in the Keonjhar Assembly seat with a margin of 11,577 votes. He previously held the position of chief whip for the BJP in the previous assembly, and at 52, he was the youngest among the frontrunners.

The decision to appoint Mr Majhi as the next chief minister was made at a BJP legislature party meeting, which saw the attendance of Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupender Yadav as observers. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend Mr Majhi’s swearing-in ceremony tomorrow evening.
