Manipur Government to Provide Rs 10,000 to Each Family Affected by Floods admin, June 14, 2024 Around 2 lakh people in Manipur have been affected by flooding. The state’s Council of Ministers, in a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, has decided to provide Rs 10,000 in immediate relief assistance to each affected family. In addition to addressing the flood impacts, the meeting also discussed various other issues and decided to set up a sub-committee for the rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons due to ethnic violence in the state. The flooding and subsequent damage have been substantial, with over 24,000 houses damaged in 348 villages across eight districts. The inundation was caused by persistent heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Remal at the end of May, which resulted in breaches in river embankments. The consequences of the flooding include three fatalities and destruction of over 434 hectares of crops in hill district areas.
