Mallikarjun Kharge Writes to Speaker and Jagdeep Dhankhar, Demanding Restoration of Gandhi and Other Statues to Original Locations.

The statues previously located in various places in the Parliament Complex have now been moved to a dedicated area called Prerna Sthal. The decision to relocate the statues has drawn strong criticism from Opposition parties, who are calling for a rollback.

Mr. Kharge expressed his discontent on social media, pointing out that the committee responsible for such decisions has not been reconstituted since 2019. He described the decision as “arbitrary” and “unilateral” and emphasized that it violates the spirit of democracy.

The ongoing political dispute over the relocation of the statues has been a point of contention for several weeks. While the BJP has not responded to the criticism, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a statement justifying the decision.

According to the statement, the statues were moved to Prerna Sthal to make them more accessible to visitors, as they were previously located in different areas of the Parliament Complex. Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman, inaugurated Prerna Sthal and described it as a place that is “motivational and inspirational.”

He believes that spending time at the site will be inspiring. Similarly, Om Birla, former Speaker of the Lok Sabha, also expressed the belief that Prerna Sthal will inspire future generations.
