The Chief Minister of Assam alleged that only one community in the state indulges in communalism. He made these remarks at a felicitation programme for winning candidates of the BJP and its allies. According to the Chief Minister, the ruling alliance secured nearly 47% of the votes, while the Congress and its allies garnered 39%.
The BJP-AGP-UPPL coalition won 11 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state, with the Congress securing the remaining three. The Chief Minister claimed that the Congress’s 39% of the votes were concentrated in minority-dominated areas, with 50% of it concentrated in 21 assembly segments. He stated that in these minority-dominated segments, the BJP received only 3% of the votes, while asserting that this proves that Hindus do not indulge in communalism.
The Chief Minister highlighted that minority-dominated areas may lack basic amenities but have consistently voted for the Congress. He contrasted this with the BJP’s efforts for the Assamese people and tribals, pointing out that these communities have not overwhelmingly supported the saffron party. He also mentioned that in majority Bangladesh-origin areas, 99% of the votes went to the Congress.
The Chief Minister accused the Bangladesh-origin community of wanting to “control the state in the next 10 years” and alleged their involvement in recent attacks and land encroachments in the state. He expressed concern about potential future attacks if the BJP government is not in power. According to the Chief Minister, the BJP and its allies won 92 out of 126 assembly segments in the Lok Sabha election, the highest ever for any ruling alliance in the state.
He expressed the alliance’s ambition to secure 50% of the votes in the 2026 state polls and reiterated the party’s commitment to nation-building and development for all parts of the state.
