FIR Filed Against Unknown Individuals for Threatening Fashion Designer Over Yoga at Golden Temple

Archana Makwana and her legal team are ready to contest the charges filed against her. An FIR was registered under Indian Penal Code Section 507 at Karelibaug police station based on her complaint about receiving death threats via email, WhatsApp, and Instagram. The complaint stemmed from photos of her performing yoga at the Golden Temple, which went viral.

No suspects were named in the FIR. Makwana visited the Golden Temple on the International Day of Yoga and performed yoga on its ‘parikrama’ path, resulting in the viral photos. The SGPC filed a complaint against her for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, leading to an FIR being registered against her by Punjab Police.

Following this, Makwana issued a video apology, expressing that she never intended to offend anyone’s religious sentiments. Subsequently, she received death threats and was provided protection by the Vadodara police. In a recent video, she requested the SGPC to withdraw the complaint against her, emphasizing that her actions did not intend to hurt anyone.

Makwana explained that the trouble began when individuals outside of India made her photos viral. She insisted that her actions were not prohibited at the temple and would have deleted the photos immediately if informed. She concluded by stating her readiness to fight the case if the SGPC does not withdraw the FIR.
