Death Toll in Tamil Nadu Hooch Tragedy Climbs to 65

As of 4 pm on Sunday, 148 individuals have been discharged from hospitals across the state. Currently, two people are receiving treatment at Kallakurichi Government Medical and Hospital, with six others receiving treatment in Puducherry and eight in Salem government hospitals. In total, 16 individuals are currently undergoing treatment.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motto cognizance of a media report on the deaths of people in the incident and established a three-member inquiry committee, led by NCW Member Khushbu Sundar, to investigate the matter. The committee visited the families of victims who lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor in Kallakurichi district. On June 28, a delegation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comprising BJP leaders Anil Antony, Arvind Menon, and MP GK Vasan met with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman, Kishore Makwana, to submit a memorandum regarding the illicit liquor tragedy in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu.
