Scam Alert: Marksheet Tampering Discovered at Gauhati University in Assam admin, June 30, 2024 Gauhati University has initiated an internal investigation following the discovery of digital tampering of marksheets. The police uncovered the scam during an inquiry into the discrepancies in the marksheet of a student from Ganesh Lal Choudhury College, which is affiliated with Gauhati University. The investigation is expanding as additional arrests are anticipated. The college reported discrepancies in the marksheet of Azizul Haque, prompting the police to take action. The marksheets showed inflated marks compared to the marks he had actually obtained. Upon interrogation, the student confessed to paying Rs 10,000 to alter his marks in the first, third, fourth, and fifth semesters. These developments coincide with the ongoing outrage over the NEET-UG paper leak case, which has led to arrests in various states. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the issue, stating that individuals responsible for managing the computer system handling marksheets at Gauhati University accept money from students to manipulate their marks. He mentioned six cases in Barpeta and reassured that thorough investigations were being conducted regarding the matter. According to sources in the CID, Gauhati University had outsourced the Integrated University Management System (IUMS) to a third-party operator. The tampering occurred at their end, and arrests were made in four districts — Barpeta, Dhubri, Kamrup (Metro), and Nagaon. The individuals apprehended were identified, and K Krishnamurthy is believed to be the ringleader, luring in students as part of the operation. The IUMS serves as the core of the university’s digital initiatives, managing various administrative functions. CID sources have disclosed the discovery of at least 10 cases of inflated marks and indicated that roughly 50 students had made payments in connection with the scheme. Gauhati University
