Investigation ordered after 3 children die and 12 fall ill at shelter home in Indore. admin, July 2, 2024 Three children from Bal Ashram of Shri Yugpurush Dham in the Malharganj police station area, named Karan (12), Akash (7), and Shubh (8), passed away on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Alok Kumar Sharma revealed this information. The exact cause of these deaths will be determined once the post-mortem reports are available. The shelter home accommodates over 200 children, including orphans and those with mental illnesses. Twelve children from the facility were hospitalized at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) with complaints of vomiting and diarrhea. Dr. Ashok Yadav, the hospital’s superintendent, mentioned that two children are critically ill due to dehydration, with all ailing children being under 14 years old. Indore collector Ashish Singh visited MYH to check on the children and learned from doctors that the situation appeared to be a case of food poisoning. The 12-year-old boy who died at the NGO-run facility suffered from brain seizures, and officials stated that his death was unrelated to suspected food poisoning. Subsequently, a joint team from various administrative departments arrived at Bal Ashram to initiate an investigation. Additional district magistrate Rajendra Singh Raghuvanshi, leading the team, conveyed that detailed scrutiny of the shelter is underway. The team collected food and ration samples from the ashram for testing, and the managers of Shri Yugpurush Dham reported to the Child Welfare Committee about ten inmates having “blood infection”. However, this claim has not been verified by the administration. Our office has not altered the content of this story, except for the title, which is published as received from a syndicated feed.
