S Jaishankar Criticizes Indians Serving in the Russian Army

Mr Jaishankar discussed the upcoming visit of PM Modi to Russia. He expressed concern about the issue of stranded Indians pressed into service with the Russian Army. He emphasized that it is unacceptable for Indian citizens to find themselves in the army of another country in a warzone.

Mr Jaishankar urged for stronger follow-up and emphasized his commitment to ensuring the return of all Indians involved. Additionally, it was reported that around 20 individuals were allegedly deceived into joining the Russian Army to fight in the war against Ukraine on the promise of lucrative jobs. Tragically, at least two Indians have died. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that 10 Indian nationals who were working as support staff in the Russian Army have returned to India.

Earlier this year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) uncovered a major human trafficking network targeting Indian nationals and sending them to the Russia-Ukraine war zone under false pretenses.
