2024 Bypolls Election Results: NDA vs India in Key Polls for 13 Assembly Seats Today

The recent electoral exercise marked the first major voting event since the Lok Sabha polls. During that election, the BJP fell short of a majority, while the opposition bloc, INDIA, gained strength. The Assembly seats that were part of this latest round of voting included various constituencies across West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh. In West Bengal, the stakes were high for both the ruling Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the BJP.

The BJP had won Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, and Bagda in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, but the elected BJP MLAs later switched to the Trinamool. The electoral exercise in Himachal Pradesh was significant as it would determine the fate of many veterans and some new entrants, including the Chief Minister and Congress leader Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur from the Dehra constituency. In Uttarakhand, the bypoll in the Manglaur constituency witnessed a three-cornered fight, with the BJP attempting to win a seat traditionally held by the Congress or the BSP. The bypoll in Punjab’s Jalandhar West assembly segment was considered a litmus test for Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann.

Similarly, in Tamil Nadu’s Vikravandi assembly constituency, the bypoll saw a triangular contest. In Madhya Pradesh’s Amarwara assembly seat, the main contest was among BJP, Congress, and Gondwana Gantantra Party candidates.
