This operation was based on specific information about the presence of terrorists. The Army’s 16 Corps reported that contact with the terrorists was made around 9 pm, leading to a heavy firefight. On July 8, 2024, five Army personnel were killed and five others were injured in a terrorist attack on a military convoy in Kathua district. In November 2023, five soldiers, including two captains, were killed in action. The previous year, in April and May 2023, ten soldiers were martyred in twin attacks. In May 2022, four individuals were killed in an attack on a pilgrim bus in Katra, and in December 2021, four soldiers were killed in action.
