At the ‘I/O Connect’ event, the company revealed a range of tools, programs, and partnerships to empower Indian developers and startups. This initiative aims to position them at the forefront of the global AI revolution. Google is making its powerful AI models more accessible to developers in India with the introduction of Gemini 1.5 Pro and Gemma 2, which feature an expanded two million token context window. Ambharish Kenghe, Vice President of Google, expressed the company’s commitment to empowering Indian innovators to harness AI’s full potential and shape its future globally. The company also discussed the vast opportunities in multimodal, mobile, and multilingual AI, highlighting India’s role in the AI journey. Google mentioned that India has one of the largest developer bases on its AI platform, Google AI Studio. Additionally, Google’s DeepMind India team expanded Project Vaani in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, providing developers with access to over 14,000 hours of speech data across 58 languages. Google is introducing Google Wallet APIs to simplify the integration of loyalty programs, tickets, and gift cards. For developers using the Google Maps Platform, India-specific pricing is being introduced, offering up to 70% lower costs on most APIs. Furthermore, Google is collaborating with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), extending up to 90% off on select Google Maps Platform APIs for developers building for ONDC.
